How does the custom order process work?
- Choose your jewelry shape and style, and place your order on the Custom Made from Your China page.
- Complete the form describing what you envision for your custom jewelry.
- Send your china to our studio along with the completed form.
- We'll contact you by email to discuss your design, then send 3–5 design options for your approval. If none of the options feel right, we'll adjust the design with you.
- Your jewelry is made within 10–12 business days after final approval, and you'll receive a ship-by date by email. Orders of more than three pieces may take longer, and we'll let you know the processing time for your specific order.
- Your finished jewelry ships to you or directly to your loved ones.
What kind of china can be made into custom jewelry?
Smaller plates such as saucers and bread plates often work best, because their motifs tend to be smaller and fit well into jewelry compositions under 1" and as small as 5/8". Larger plates and serving pieces can also work when a motif or section of pattern is small enough for the style you choose. Tea cups and other curved pieces are more challenging, since the curve may keep the china from sitting flat in the bezel. After you order, you'll talk through your vision for each piece, including which motifs to feature, how they're arranged, and any finishing details, then receive photos of the proposed design for approval. How many pieces of jewelry can one plate make?
That depends on the size of the plate, how many motifs it has, and the type of jewelry you choose. A plate with several small, repeated motifs can provide more pieces than one with a single large design. Earrings take two pieces of china each: a symmetrical pair needs two matching motifs, while a mismatched pair can use two different sections of the pattern. Will I see my custom design before it's made?
Yes. After your china arrives at the studio, we'll contact you by email to discuss what you envision for your jewelry. You'll then receive 3–5 options of the proposed design for your approval. If none of the options feel right, we'll adjust the design with you. Work begins only after your final approval, and a ship-by date follows by email.
Can I have jewelry made from my mother's or grandmother's china?
Yes. A mother's or grandmother's china is one of the most common requests for custom jewelry, whether it's her wedding china, holiday china, or the set the family used for years. The jewelry can be a gift for her at Christmas, on Mother's Day, or for a milestone birthday, or a gift from her to a daughter or granddaughter. Custom jewelry from family china also makes a sentimental wedding day gift for a daughter or granddaughter, or a way to welcome a daughter-in-law into the family. A pendant, or a statement ring for her right hand, lets the bride wear the family's pattern on her wedding day, and the vintage china can be her something old, or her something blue if the pattern is blue.
Can I return or exchange custom jewelry?
No. Every custom piece is made specifically for you, whether from your own china or from china in our collection, so custom jewelry cannot be returned or exchanged. That's why you'll see 3–5 design options before anything is created.
